--------------------------------
___________________________________________
{esp=no} Enhance serial priority (yes/no)
___________________________________________
Try setting this item to "yes" if your system drops characters
when TSR programs are installed (some of the symptoms are listed
under the "sld" item). "esp" and "sld" may be tried in any
combination.
NOTE: This feature is automatically disabled when {COMMO}
detects DESQview, OS/2 or Windows (In DESQview set "Optimize
Communications" to "yes" for the same result).
See also the "sld" item.

{set _exted} Command line for external editor
_______________________________________________
An external editor may be defined to edit the Dialing Directory
and Macro Files directly from their respective windows. See
Appendix K for details.
Add under "Colors"
------------------
{kfs=70,1b,30} File Selector window colors
-----===== [Alt-U] Utility Menu
The Utility Menu is supported by a macro in COMMO.MAC. It contains a
selection of features created by {COMMO} macros.
Current features include:
Add an entry to the Dialing Directory.
Set current terminal emulation.
Run the host mode macro, MOSTHOST.MAC.
Edit the host mode macro.
Edit any external text file less than 64k in size.
Run any macro by name (label).
Load any Macro File.
Modify certain setup items for the current session.
NOTE: The Utility Menu may not be available (or may have different
features on its menu) if an auxiliary Macro File has been loaded.

Under ALARm, Switches
---------------------
F1 or F
Make the "failed" sound.
F0
Make the "success" (ringing) sound (default).
=== BEEP ===
Default key: none
Description: Play a sequence of sounds.
Examples:
{beep 36,440,18,523}
Play an A note for two seconds followed by a C note for one
second.
{beep}
Default is a short beep sound.
Listed arguments are treated as pairs. The first number of each pair
is the duration of the sound in 18ths of a second (system clock
ticks). The second number is the frequency in Hz (0 to 19 is
silence).
Here is a frequency chart for five octaves:
C 131 262 523 1040 2093
C#/Db 139 277 554 1103 2217
D 147 294 587 1176 2349
D#/Eb 156 311 622 1241 2489
E 165 330 659 1311 2637
F 175 349 698 1391 2794

A#/Bb 233 466 932 1866 3729
B 248 494 988 1973 3951
=== FILE ===
Default key: none
Description: Find or display directory information.
General form:
{FILE path\filespec}
path\filespec
The path and filespec (file mask) to be used for
finding or displaying directory entries (filenames and
subdirectories). The filespec may contain wildcards.
Switches:
X1 or X
Find next matching entry.
X0
Find first matching entry (default).
S1 or S
Display a listing of filenames and subdirectories.
Examples:
{file c:\upload\*.*}
Find first filename or subdirectory in the directory
"c:\upload."
{file-x}
Find next filename or subdirectory.
{file-s c:\upload\*.zip}
Display all subdirectories and .ZIP files in the directory
"c:\upload".
---------- Using FILE to get file information: FILE, FILE-X
The FILE function will find directory information about the files and
subdirectories specified in "filespec." The data will be made
available in the following built-in variables:
_ffn
Filename or subdirectory name. Subdirectory names will be
preceded with a "\". The parent directory is "\..".
_ffs
File size in bytes.
_ffd
File date. The format will be as specified in Setup File
item "dat=".
_fft
File time. The format will be as specified in Setup File
item "tim=".
The FILE function must be executed without the "X" switch (or with X0)
to initialize the directory. This will also make available the first
filename or subdirectory. Subsequent executions (with the "X" switch)
will make subsequent names available.
Use the IFCOndition function to determine if a filename was made
available. The first label ("true") will be taken if a filename was
found; the second label ("false") will be taken if no additional
filenames are available.
TIPS on using FILE, FILE-X:
* IMPORTANT! Do not use IFEXist until all files have been found
(it uses the same DOS file finding functions).
* The built-in variables will always contain the data for the last
filename found. If no filename has ever been found, the contents
are unpredictable.
---------- Using FILE to Select files: FILE-S
The "S" switch is used when you want {COMMO} to display the names of
the files in the specified directory. Files may then be selected
(tagged) for uploading or other purposes. Tagged pathnames are
appended to the file {SEND}.LST in the {COMMO} home directory (except
when Esc is pressed). Facilities are also provided for navigating,
changing the filespec and editing the {SEND}.LST file.
The Exit Code is set according to the user's action (keys are shown in
Online Help) and the built-in variable "_ffn" contains returned
information (when applicable). The Exit Code appears in the variable
"_err" and may also be tested with the IFERrorlevel function. Exit
Codes are as follows:
0 The "finish" key has been pressed.
1 The Escape key has been pressed.
2 The "edit" key has been pressed.
3 A new drive has been chosen (drive letter is in "_ffn").
4 A new directory has been chosen (subdirectory name is in
"_ffn" and is preceded by a "\"; the parent directory is
"\..").
5 A new file specification has been entered (filespec is in
"_ffn", e.g., *.zip).
TIPS on using FILE-S:
* Use {wind-k} to get a smooth display between invocations of
FILE-S.
* When a clean list is desired, {SEND}.LST should be deleted prior
to the first use of FILE-S.
Under GETString, Switches
-------------------------
R1 or R
"Raw" mode. A single character will be received and
converted to a decimal number string. All 256 character
values are allowed.
R0
Normal GETString rules apply (default).
Under NOCArrier, Switches
-------------------------
E or E1
Enable the "carrier lost" logic as if a connection had been
made using the Auto Dialer. If no label is specified when
using the "E" switch, the current label will be retained.
E0
Do not enable the "carrier lost" logic (default).
Under SEND, Switches
--------------------
B1 or B
Byte mode. Characters are represented by decimal or hex
numbers, separated by commas. Hex numbers are preceded by a
"0" and all characters from 0 to 255 may be sent. There is
no conversion, no translation and no local echo.
B0
Normal string mode (default).

-----------------------------------------
---------- Using an External Editor
(Note that this feature is unavailable during shareware evaluation.)
An external text editor may be used to edit the Dialing Directory and
Macro Files directly from their respective windows. Your editor's
command line is first defined in the reserved variable "_exted". Then
you simply press Alt-E instead of "E" to use your editor instead of
the Internal Editor.
TIPS on using an external editor:
* The file will be saved prior to running the editor (if changed),
and it will be reloaded upon return.
* Two built-in variables provide the filename and the line number
to be used on the editor's command line:
_edf The filename of the last file displayed (or
current).
_edl The current line number of the cursor within the
file.
These may be used as in this Setup File example:
{set _exted,c:\util\editor.exe %_hom%%_edf /n%_edl}
NOTE: The "_exted" variable may also be defined in a macro.
* The command line is run as if it appeared in an {exec-DN...}
function -- i.e., direct, no clear and no swap. This makes it as
fast and seamless as possible. If you need to use the DOS
command processor (e.g., to run a batch file or to search the
path), define the command like this:
{set _exted,c:\command.com /c editor %_hom%%_edf /n%_edl}
- end -
